How do missiles work? As in the visual of a spell. It's a visual file sure, but what is making it move? Is it just a script that makes an invisible game object and straps the visual file into it and says go from attachment point hand to target with fly speed x? Has anyone here really dug into this to see what's happening when a spell missile visual is being cast at another player or creature?

Or is it really an invisible npc with a fly speed that gets close, triggers the spell impact does damage and then deletes itself?

The spell speed is used to figure out the delay between a spell being cast and the missile hitting iirc

Interesting. I wonder why it is that you can delay damage by continuously moving away from a spell. You would figure that the time it takes to hit you wouldn't be a constantly updating thing if it was based on a speed that was determined on cast.

You're not supposed to at least. The missile will hit later, but the damage should be calculated on time

That's why you can keep an indefinite amount of paper zeppelins in the air. The projectile is very slow, but the hit occurs with the projectile mid air and you get the zeppelin into your bag

You could apply the same trajectory logic the client uses to move the missile towards its destination server-side and recalculate the impact time
