Sure, but I feel like if you hit that cap on a single server then you'd probably have the money to invest into a proper implementation

But while I think about it I actually went for kinda the same solution you proposed <@171604048733011968> for petitions.

They are limited to int32, and people love to not hand them in.

You'd just tag the lifetime of an item, if the item hasn't been alive for x amount of time, and the player owning said item hasn't been on for ages to refresh that lifetime, free up the entry to be used by something else. Chances are the item no longer exists in anyone's cache and the entry should be available for use

But hitting the max amount of items that could possibly exist in the ranges in a single uptime cycle I highly doubt would happen, and would warrant other actions like opening a separate realm or rework the system

Very interesting see i was just going to create all the variations of the items and create a item/spell that would add the player a item based on rng which would be similar as far as the player is concerned which is okay but does have drawbacks such as if i need to make an edit of items i have to either go in manually modify each affected item or regenerate them all together. So this is very interesting and is giving me further ideas about what all i could do if i had a in your words a "virtual item" that could be manipulated.
