the second commit fixed the crashes i experienced when messing with it, but i don't remember exactly when that started happening

it's the same reasoning as the second commit, tc by default crashes a bunch because it assumes the path masks can't be overridden, but with custom paths they can

I haven't added a path yet, I just wanted to get this node behaviour in place first. My principle is "One step at a time" otherwise crap gets confusing. lol
