It shouldn't return to home on casting a Spell though, makes me think the spell is doing something odd

I'll try that out, I did try replacing the spell with other things such as the warlock corruption but it acted the same way

If it's casting it in another unit it may be entering and leaving combat which causes it to return to home

For invisible creatures that handle effects I usually set hostile with passive AI or friendly with spell target of any unit

When I set it to passive AI it seemed to be unable to move, which I found odd as well, its set to smart atm. Friendly is an interesting idea though

I don't directly use passive or smart AI, I script everything
