A regular AP has no concept of IP-addresses and acts more like a hub/basic switch

Port Forwarding I'm fairly confident is a 'layer 3' operation - which would fall under a router. When setting as an Access Point I'm assuming the device is going down into a 'layer 2' mode. Though with the limited options in that screenshot it honestly seems more like a wireless hub than switch - not seeing anything about VLAN, QoS or other layer 2 operations listed.

Yeah, as I said I've been playing around too much with more complex hardware. I don't use or even see many basic APs these days so I made a stupid assumption with what I have.

Will requiring a static IP in my AP do anything then?

a static IP in your AP just makes it easier to manage.

Otherwise you have to "find it".

That happens. I've been out of the network admin thing for about 10 years now, so haven't messed with anything non-consumer based since then.
