Banning the said IP doesn't always stop flooding if that is the case, since the IP is still making an connection to the host before hitting the block rules. Would need something in the upstream to prevent pre-connection to the host.

Yes but the best way to get around ddos attacks would be to pay for it and that's not even a choice in some situtations.

to be fair, my firewall wasnt established before because I was testing around with the connection a bit.

I always change the silly 8085 to something very random to avoid it ever being included in the 'average' port scanner anyway.

its not matter of firewall either....when u are running single server and ur internet connection gets filled with malformed packets no action on said server will save u
