basically a container for the instance to run in, they're almost certainly doing some form of that nowadays

for dungeons they've pretty much always done it as far as I can tell, I think nowadays zones are instanced as well cus of how the crossrealm thing works

I would personally never run a public, popular, server using docker etc. LXC containers, yes, because that's a containerized OS instead of containerized application.
