i think i can mount a `/azerothcore/env/dist/etc/worldserver.conf` from a configmap and point it at a database server and go from there

I assume so. I've never used any form of docker-ish system myself but yeah. As long as it can connect to the database server and the username and password is correct etc it should work

i'm a turbo dork and my job involves containerizing stuff and moving it into kubernetes, so this seemed like a good knowledge check sort of project

has anyone run more than one auth server behind a load balancer? i'm assuming they're stateful, i seem to remember the client holding that connection open during the game, if the auth server went down you'd be dropped from the world server

I can kill my authserver while logged in and never seem to have issues, unless I'm having a total brain fart and remembering it wrong. It's easy to test, though. Not like the authserver really needs load balancing, the worldserver does need a way to split different areas into different processes (on different systems, preferably)

yeah it's more for high availability than like, a load consideration. kubernetes makes putting multiple copies of a thing behind a load balancer stupid easy so i think i'm gonna try it, like you said it's a cheap test

Having multiple authservers would have only one advantage I say. You can take one down, update it, bring it back up, repeat on the other(s)

yeah the worldserver is a little trickier, i remember that much. the guts of that are over my head but i'd imagine rather than having multiple replicas, you'd break the server down into sort of a dispatcher piece and a lot of smaller processes that are responsible for like, one zone each
