since apparently the pointer still exists enough to do that if statement without failing.

Yeah, I really don't know. I've never had to do really extensive debugging.

If there's something I have to do with junk-to-gold do let me know. I've run through a few dungeons with it at least and it works like a dream so far.

Yes but if several modules have conflicts and they all resort to that you'll be back to the same exact issue

I don’t think you can help it, sometimes multiple modules are not compatible with each other, simple as
