if you just want to have the shape of your continent auto generated from images it's actually pretty easy and doable, it's even what blizzard did and why there are dead land around zones.
But filling that is the hard part

realistically there's no "magic" or hack to make good zones quickly or blizz would have figured it out, it's just months/years of hard work
