Yeah. Plain Lua is absolutely slow, like 70x slower than C++. Similar performance to Python and Ruby.

Afaik on avg LuaJit comes out to 3x slower than cpp

I wouldn't call that close, perhaps the wording "closer" is fair compared to non jit lua, but not exactly the same
