What I do is reading MOCV now, adding MOHD color to it, multiplying texture color by the altered MOCV

texture color in your case needs to be multiplied by (2*MOCV.rgb + ambientColor)

I still think when you add ambient to MOCV, you have MOCV in (0-255) range and ambient in (0.0-1.0) range

It is not possible that something is 255 and something is 1.0. I am using nodes, not programming language and it is always in float there.
