I used smart uv unwrap then set the unwarp on the texture with very little tweaking. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you are asking.

Hello guys. Here is another tutorial how you can model a weapon in Blender and then texture the weapon and then convert the model to m2 and skin file and then make an mpq patch and use the weapon in game. There is alot to learn in this video so i hope you find it usefull
