being gm does do a lot of wierdness coreside

1. I don't limit support to blizz files, everything is generic there so generally it should work. There was a missing feature, it didn't support mpq version 1, which is not used by blizz anymore, but afaik some custom content creators were using it. But Titi has fixed it and the editor should support those mpqs now
2. That said, at the moment the 3d live map spawn editor is very limited, actually you can't edit it yet, only view. I am working on adding support for proper editing
