If used with git correctly it gets about 90-95% of my changes when moving upstream so I wouldn't say git is necessarily bad for it in that regard. Yes architectural shifts would require rewrites but I haven't seen much of those in recent times. At least on TC I am not as up to date on AC. I agree that nobody should use that code but there are still servers that run it and others that download an 8 year old repack and host it

Players shouldn't just be woefully ignorant to that fact, granted the players that use the username and password everywhere wouldn't be the type to know about said security issue s

And again, it would be much more correct to point out this issue itself instead of requesting a public announcement of own vulnerabilities, wouldn't you agree? After all, we live in quite a hostile world - not everyone would walk away from an opportunity, however minor.

That depends widely on the player themself. It's quite easy to trace a revision to it's commit

But what server running on a repack is fixing it? Or the server owner who had 0 idea how to recompile because his core guy left

It's quite hard, on the other hand, to imagine **a player** who would know what a revision or a commit is and how to assess the info those entail.
