TC is not a mail server and this has nothing to do with email routing so it's a bad analogy

if you are on an internal network, with a server IP 10.0.0.1 and it's name is tc.blah.com, on the internal network, you want your internal dns server to resolve tc.blah.com to an ip of 10.0.0.1. If you are on an external/public network, and you query tc.blah.com, you want it to resolve to its public address of 73.42.91.44.
