I think you can run k8s with VMs. In aws there is service for that, I think Fargate, every pod would run in separate ~~VM~~ (even better ec2 instance). But I think it's super expensive.

k8s is nothing for big mmo servers. it makes them perform way worse. while being scalable it is just bad for those things

more in general but k8s makes it even worse to manage (for these mmo server cases at least) imo
