until the bar to accepts any fix gets so low that it's not even valid code anymore, causing crashes and weird ingame issues that don't show up when developing alone on one's own pc

Didn't say try the crowbar to fix it right away. As I said, I'm not a c++ programmer, but I know it from my time in PHP programming, so sometimes you had to find an interim solution to fix an error. Many years ago I had a project to manage game servers using PHP scripts and Linux-based scripts, so I know where my limits are. And yes, before the server crashes every 5 minutes, I would not install a function either.
