trinitycore is a fork off mangos that was created during wotlk (2009 iirc).
sunwell was a trinitycore-based private server that operated during the early-mid 2010s and quit and released their source in 2016, having stopped merging trinitycore around the ace/asio rewrite because the early asio tree had performance issues (this is no longer the case, and even azerothcore are trying to move to asio).
azerothcore is a fork of the 2016 sunwell core and isn't as strict as trinitycore with how things are supposed to be solved.
