No emulator is 100% bug free and all content works 100%.

the old wotlk emulator is largely functional and won't be going anywhere, but it didn't stop receiving patches because of classic, that slowed down years ago

even azerothcore didn't get much work until they put their devs on payroll, it's just the state of emulation these days

for most developers, breaching into shiny new systems is just much more fun than trying to cram out bugs and every content hub in the game. been that way since the tbc days and probably long before that

I only heard from Azerothcore that they separated from Trinity/mangos because of an incident. now they do their own thing. Anyone can do it, it's open source.

not much of an incident, there was a private server that released all their patchy private fixes and azerothcore went with it

Usually the open source license states that anything you change must be released back to the public. They don't, they grab what's useful, change a few lines of code, and say hey, look at what I made. I find that, for example, asocial, adorning oneself with someone else's feathers.

trinitycores and mangos license doesn't state that, but azerothcores does. You can still feel that it's asocial behavior, of course, but private servers have rarely ever breached mangos licenses, only repacks do.

i think there are usually much better avenues to encourage contributions than trying to apply force, especially with how hard restrictive licenses strike at custom content servers
