Of course it's all volunteering and I respect that, but the fact of the matter is that it's a shame if 3.3.5 dies out as a result

That's just my personal opinion that I'm saying here and everyone is allowed to express their opinion about it.

classic is in the same situation. if people lose interest or has an accident it can be hard to recover from, and when as currently it's a very small amount of people into it not even those developers can say what it turns into

Of course nobody has the crystal ball, because if I had one I would play the lottery and then retire, but the reality is different.

situation _was_ different 10+ years ago and you could be very sure things would improve, but the repo kind of speaks for itself now. 3.3.5 branch has been pretty stale for a long time, and not much has happened with classic branch yet either. People still use the 3.3.5 branch very actively and it won't be removed. This is probably just the worst time to try and make any prediction at all

It may be, but you also know that from Windows, how many people still think Windows XP is the best thing Microsoft has released and how many computers are still running with it today. Exactly the same with Win7. People stick to what is best for them and that is 3.3.5 and also because the website recommends it for beginners.

sure, but i don't think legacy systems will be much of the concern for which branch is favored, it's much more down to how difficult getting the classic branch into a playable state will actually be.
