Yes, I know Blizzard has removed quests here and there, e.g. With my favorite quest at the time "Wrath's Gate", the quest line was changed for the worse, which is also shown by numerous user posts.

Also parts of content might have to be refactored server side because of various new systems from the new client.

I think many will stick with 3.3.5a simply because it is the true original. Hence the question of whether this is still being worked on, because so far I've only seen fixes and improvements for master broke on github for 3.3.5, which seems to be next to nothing, that's my feeling and I've been observing this for a while.

Obviously many will stil with 3.3.5a, simply because it has a fuck ton of resources for modding and people are too lazy to research the new modding methods..

majority of custom content servers still use trinity 3.3.5a, it's just not receiving a lot of public work for blizzlike content

this is all volunteer work so there's no guarantee for anything. Right now there is some excitement for the classic branch, but nobody knows what will be kept up

well, there are other aspects.
You certainly can't just update from 3.3.5a to another client as if it were a Windows update that you do with a click. many have put a lot of work into custom content and don't want to start from scratch again, and above all compatibility also plays a role
