you would also split socket server and 'handling' ideally. Means there is no real main server available besides the one that keeps the client connection

But even without it its not really redundant. the 'main' server should also not store all those data if you split it anyways

a monolith can handle 10k+ players if properly optimized.
a half assed distrubted setup i would imagine could easily triple/quadruple that

It's not about the need of that. When you already work on such a system where you split services or lets say a modular monolith it makes already sense to let a socket server handle such things.
