At some point, we all didn't know how to do something, and even today we don't know.

By working publicly, all contributions end up in the same place. That way, while one is updating the libraries to compile with the latest problems and on all operating systems, another does translations and another fixes a boss or spell. But all the changes go to the repository and we all benefit as a community.

In short, if you dedicate 1 hour per day to it, and another dedicates 5 to it, it is possible that the one who dedicates the most hours to it, the more he or she can learn (although it does not always happen, but it should be that way). When I got to the emulator, I already knew how to use Linux servers, because I managed one with Debian 5 or 6. Today there is version 12.
