Sorry I'm new to this and my background is not in IT. What you mean with extracting data from client is that you somehow datamined the original retail wow client and stored all of it in dbc files?

The client has the exact same DBC files that is used by the server inside it

its surprisingly simple data format so originally yes client was "data mined" and together with sniffing and generally available data like item stats from wowhead or other sources was used to create first emulator
