when u have reader (core does) and u know how it works its very simple to create exporter so aside from fact that AC doesnt support modding so officially there is no reason for exporter to exist u could still have all of that data in DB so u have single source of truth (not like cases where my dick discovered that some dbcs are not even read in AC) it would be easier to search through if u want to override something u dont need to search for it and copy it from dbc to db etc

I'll try one more time:
As of today you *can* use SQL only for the _DBC tables where client changes are not mandatory. Thus you *can* choose to use queries and not change anything in DBC.
For that case you can also chose to change DBC only and deploy the data to the server only.
=> There is choice and thus convenience.
Removing DBC files server side would make server-side queries AND client-side dbc file edits mandatory for those who change things, which require client side DBC changes.

What about legality when it comes to storing all the data from the dbcs in the official repository? I don't know how it works but knowing Blizzard I can only assume such a thing would make 'em angry

DBC stands for DataBaseClient. The Data was extracted from the client and is used server-side as well.
