I need a variable from a custom header in game but I can't add it to shared as well since it's loaded on startup.

Honestly, if you need to include something from game in shared, you should move whatever you need to shared

There's config options for what patch is active so I sadly can't add it to both. I'm just trying to add min/max patch to map_dbc so I don't have to "hardcode" expansion and max players for Onyxia and Naxxramas but maybe i should just stick to doing that.

Not saying you should add it to both, but you should move it to shared then reference that shared value in game

You can call it from game, you just create setter/getter methods in shared
