MariaDb is a bit more User Friendly if you r just getting started. Otherwise its 6 of one ...

The fun thing about VM is that you can easily rewind time with a snapshot to save the day

i used mysql before but only with guidance of blogs or so
so - if i have this "Variablename = "MySQLIP;Port;Username;Password;database" is the port the same with mariadb? and can i just use root?

If your VM is being backed up somehow (im not sure how it would be) then restore. Problem is if it taking some kind of Live snapshot then Mysql is still going to need to do recovery

Should be Fish I think if you took the defaults. Should have asked you during install what ports to use

so far only the core install but it didnt ask me a port
but isnt sql in general just the default?
