Found a way through compiling a package module (RTL8723DE Realtek Ethernet PCIE driver) from GitHub.. but that would involve having a wired internet supply to install git and download the module in the first place. And honestly it feels like a tremendous headache for something which should have been a basic feature

I assume you don't have a separate network card laying around that you can put in temporarily, which makes that a little more painful.

debian has a thing for those sorts of drivers i believe, not in the main download or whatever due to them not wanting to mix packages with non foss licenses or something i believe

If it had the software to compile it already installed, you could easily put the repo on a usb stick or external drive and copy it over
