Could be that a module uses core methods which are not capable of catching the exception. Then it's AC.

That is not the intended use. The function is core side low level function for setting data on entity objects like player and item etc. The server sends the data almost as-is to client.

I remember chat about a setter/getter for arbitrary object data being required. Especially for future multi state use. Seems like we still need that.
