the problem is not that it's a single object , or multiple...it's nothing.

Yes, so It's possible that whoever did that clustered all of those objects into a single WMO. In which case it is impossible to move any element independently.

great tool, reminds me of my friend who used to encrypt sites so well people had to pay only to see the preview

well with what you've told me. The solution would be getting a hold of the WMO, then opening it up in a editing program and ripping out the parts you want.
