You really need to triple-check everything in the tutorial. That error means that your armature/mesh/whatever doesn't have the "WMO Group" property assigned to it, just click to button in the WMO tools pallette to assign it.

You also need to have that property to edit things like it's WMO ID that shows up in the .dbc files.
