1/ Not really sure what the issue is there, never really explored wider screens than 1920x1080
You can try to "hackfix" it, create a frame over UIParent, get its size and then work from there
local f = CreateFrame("Frame", nil, UIParent)
f:SetAllPoints()
f:GetSize(false)
And assure the font etc is fixed, maybe that helps
2/ the crash is something I stumbled on a few times, and i'm pretty sure its the same issue.
when you try to render a UI that is bigger than the current screen, either X or Y . It will crash, i like to make my code "dynamic" , basicly checking the screen size and make the render logic depend on that instead of fixed x:SetSize()

the crash was linked to the background frame, commenting it out resolves the crash so i definitely have to make it dynamic and not fixed

case update: the client crash was due to the background image's size, it was set to 4096x2048 and changing it to 2048x1024 resolved the crash
