It's pretty simple once you get it. The spell editor only has very limited support, so I mainly use the diagram on the spell editor repo as reference for how to setup different data.

The primary thing is the spell visual kits and effects. Each kit happens on an event (casting, impact, channel, state, etc) and sets up what effects should occur on that event. The effects can have predefined points like the unit base, head, left hand, etc... or you can define custom attachment points by turning it into an attachment.

The missile has its own data. Spell chains and area effects are handled with special rules too. If you editing anything other than effects/kits/attachments, do it in the DB rather than with spell editor.

The rule of thumb with spell editor is that it will *always* create new IDs when copy + pasting. If you paste a spell visual kit into a spell with a spell visual ID of 0 (i.e: no visual set), then it will copy + paste the entire spell visual over as a new set of IDs.

I always look at how existing visuals are implemented for reference

before i run off on my own, would you have on hand any resources or lists for effects of custom spells in general? im experimenting with the program and have been using azeroth core website tables as a reference but i assume theres some nifty tools around town
