I understand (basic) UV mapping, what I'm not clear on is how the game figures out which UVs are considered the "face"
Since the full body texture and the face texture have different resolutions, the same UVs used on one wouldn't apply to the other, and also I'd expect it to get projected onto the entire "skin" instead of just the face part of the skin.
And if they *did* use the same UVs on both textures, I would expect the actual *texture* of the face to be squished down since it's 128x256 instead of 512x512

The mesh for the face is included in the mesh for the torso, hands, and feet. So how does it *only* apply this texture to the face?

I should clarify, I'm specifically talking about when you cycle through facial options in the character creator. The different face options are a separate texture that's projected onto the mesh where the face goes. I'm trying to figure out how the game determines where that projection goes
