The original item in the .dbc also has no suffixes, but when looking for textures in WMV, it did have _f and _m variations

The texture files themselves need to have a gender designation, which is either _F, _M, or _U for universal which covers both. The DBC string does not include that part, the game simply looks for the F or M or U based on the character model

I get the textures from retail not working before, but here it's a wotlk texture slightly recolored in gimp. Never got this issue with weapons, heads and shoulders
