Been looking a bit into it out of curiosity. The paths to models referenced in itemdisplayinfo.dbc are hardcoded into the exe.
So I assume there is some sort of lookup table by slot or something, getting these paths and ignoring items that are not supposed to have attached models.
I have basically no skill with ida or similar tools, but wouldn't it be possible to just extend the list with paths and the (I assume existing) list with attachment points mapped to slots too and then the itemdisplayinfo.dbc would just out of the box allow properly formatted m2 files to be attached to the right points?
