now if ascension *not saying they do this* happened to setup a chain of like
1) tell server attempt to login
2) check for cheats (if found, cancel chain)
3) keep going
this could be a different conversation, as while the data of the cheat itself is not transmitted, the information that there were some type of file on the computer that was deemed malicious is there, that could be seen in the same vein

It's easy for arm-chair lawyers to get lost in the nitty-gritty arguing on individual interpretations of the law that we would need a court to realistically be definitive on.
The point still stands: these are standard industry practices, it is considered personal information, and it is important to be transparent with this information. Obfuscating the code and having no disclosure on what you are processing is questionable at best. Illegal at worst.
Some users will care, some will not. LoL's kernal level anti-cheat drove a lot of users away but also stopped a massive amount of hackers. The governor was abandoned because there was an outrage over processing window titles (just saving hashes, not even text).

because it's basically a rootkit

probably for PR reasons and even if the titles are hashed, if they get sent to the server it's a different case

They did not get sent to the server. The server sent a list of hashes to match against.

checking for hashed titles would be my least worry when talking about these things and privacy but i guess people are afraid blizzard will find out about their furry porn <:kekw:1301383133899522078>

was also like 15 years ago at this rate, people's privacy concerns are signifigantly weaker

My assumption would be because it's very easy for code like this to go from innocdent to questionable very quickly. So if you are procesing that data you need to be very explicit about how you are using it.

the really interesting point is why do they all have these anti cheat tools and still do worse at preventing farm bots than any private server ever
