but technically, there shouldn't be a reason to even do that. The client should just hash the path once and then every compare is a x bit integer compare instead of 32+ bytes of string, so the hashing amortizes very fast. Could even sort by hash so you can binary search the lookup table

Tools like these do exist, though not publicly afaik. I've written one myself to look at Project Epoch's custom stuff. It works exactly the way you described
