thinking that i might remove those backup archives, since they do not really contain anything of value, since the files in there are just the files from the previous build, right?

that they used MPQ files with compression is actually the reason, that the wow client archive is that big, because deduplication is pretty hard / impossible through the compression changes on the data (ofc it makes sense for a "normal" client install on a enduser machine... having such a big archive was hardly a design influence back then XD)
