Looks like the next annoynace is MLFDChunk. It's documented as "part of the LOD", but the doodads are rendered in bite-size sets of 3 doodads... and the m2lod 'offset' is used _how_? as an index into mldx/mldd?

Oh, I see, the 'offset' means "start reading m2s from here", and the length means "read this many m2s". In that case, unless I want to rebuild all of MLFD (definitely not, though I understand not its purpose) I simply need to resize the m2lodlength if the original doodad was removed... hopefully.
