It isn't as bad as it used to be, but compared to an optimized solution that isn't effectively little text files it doesn't compare as well

I'd love to see someone stress test it and get some real data. It is much more reliant on your storage medium and its speed, as I understand it.

There are many reasons to pick a database solution, I'd say especially for large scale mmos with multiple servers etc, there are more factors at play than just your storage medium and the speed at which it operates.

Sqlite today is much better than it used to be in the past, but I still wouldn't go with it for a live game service

You could probably run a website with ~200M requests per month just fine with no issue, also of course depends on how much of that traffic ends up as data in your database
