And looking at this... this is also just another "I show you all the data like all the other programs in individual fields, so you have to figure it out yourself".
Like I am baffled. 3.3.5 is out over... 15 years god damn I am old.
And nobody ever made like a proper editor that slices everything as much as possible together, make a nice user interface without overwhelming non-programmers?

but supporting more versions can bring in developers which ultimately means faster dev than only one version, it's a balance trying to get some core stuff working and not going all in on new version features, leave that to other devs interested in those versions

1.12 and 2.4 is planned as testing grounds before cata+, they are very easy to support, almost no changes. Mostly small m2 format differences
and also 1.12 is quite a large community with many devs

Not worth it. If any additional programmers only wanna join cause of "Oh I wanna add version X!"... just gonna add headache.
Gotta have to design around two systems... or try to merge the two into something proprietary.
The best solution would be to finish a as-much-as-possible-all-in-one program for 3.3.5 exclusively.
With no extra fluff. No extra special data handling and stuff. Just a working program with nice, intuitive user experience.
When that is done, move on to see how to add additional features from newer versions. But even than... a standalone program might be even better. Built on top of the then already stable framework.

or they limit their tools in scope, eg wowdbeditor only doing database stuff.

you won't get as many people going "I wanna add version X!" if you already support their version

like, say, for 1.12s large pool of developers

there is actually a dedicated modern noggit development community with some devs already with their noggit fork
