The big problem of WoW is that it relies on CPU a lot. With modern API, it's possible to move a lot of work to GPU side.
I'm not sure how WoW uses these antiportals in reality. But here are some observations:
1) Antiportal WMO group doesn't participate in PortalCulling algo. So it's separate system, that should be applied separately
2) Antiportals sometimes are placed inside buildings, which means they are in the middle of interior group. This creates sort of a mess, bcuz of exterior/interior.
3) In my mind most useful way of applying Antiportal would have been to render it into Depth buffer, but bcuz it's placed in the middle of interior group, it's not the case, cause it would've cull the said interior group as well

My clue so far is that antiportals are used somehow on CPU for culling. Which is not really effective, but may help to reduce drawcalls
