also if they swap their database definitions from signed to unsigned.. they would then have to change their null if they used -1

-1 is often stored in unsigned fields (saved as uint max)
all string flags are ignored by the client
-1 can mean not applicable, not defined, or everything.
some DBCs have magic non-standard orders that need to be enforced
there's a lot of fuckery
