I can try and time how long it takes to extract maps single threaded without any textures if you'd like?

2.5 seconds to extract and convert eastern kingdoms from casc -> novus formats (Single Threaded, Including saving all converted files to disk), mind you this isn't optimized to the extends that it could be, but it is a good start.

We are slow because ( i think, need to confirm ), Noggit open and close MPQ archive for each file loaded ( need to confirm )

Yeah that would be really bad, probably a pretty big improvement in of itself to avoid that
