Abandoned? Only in that the people working on Red decided to fork rather than contribute to the original project, primarily because they were originally doing private paid features. Both are still valid projects.

Both have their issues that each other resolve. One simple example is WMO sets work on Normal Noggit while it does not on Red

Either way, I'd veeeerry much prefer development happen in the "old" repo, even if there are two different versions in the same repo then. Just splitting repos creates useless duplicate worlds and confusion for users. And makes it way harder for anything to ever get merged again.
