oh you mean not the object itself are rotating but the whole group itself is changing their position

one may want to not have ad-hoc per-selection groups but an explicit grouping mechanism ala powerpoint etc

which then would also display a bounding box for the group rather than the individuals, and making the current "mode" very clear.
