the difference is just weather it subtracts or adds

well, it is quite hard to define tbh, and I don't know how to do it correctly. When starting from 0,0,0 and having a 1,0,0 brush, lighten should probably go to 1,0,0 over time. but if you then change to a 0,1,0 brush, do you go to 1,1,0 or 0,1,0? and what gradient do you go? is 0.5,0.5,0 a valid outcome of that brush? after all you don't want to reach the color, you also want a specific intensity? aaah.
