Thats fascinating. So i guess id probably want to create a custom tame beast for each race and then add exceptions? Or is there an easier way? Also, im doing this on 1.12.1. Either way, thanks.

if it doesnt show ingame its often an item.dbc issue, make sure its correctly added to item.dbc on both server and clientside, then clear client cache

if you do .lookup item NAME ingame with your itemname and it doesnt show, its a database issue

1.12 is prolly vmangos or something right?
Depending on how much it varies I would assume you can just add your handling into the normal tame spell handler. Just a single tame spell but make your custom creature, e.g. machines tamable via db.
Then make a fail as soon as anyone but gnomes try to tame them.
The downside would be that they look tamable to all races that way. Not sure how that is handled later with exotic pets and if there is special handling to make it look different for hunters without the talent.
I added an exotic talent check in 1.12 a few years ago and that didn't involve a custom taming spell iirc..... but it's been a while. :/
